Community Action Network partners with children, youth and families from under-resourced Washtenaw County neighborhoods to create better futures for themselves and to improve the communities in which they live.
CAN’s academically focused After School Program is 4 - 5 days a week during the school year, and includes a 6-week, fun, educational summer day camp. This program serves 150+ economically disadvantaged students with a comprehensive evidence-based portfolio of homework assistance, tutoring, academic enrichment, attendance initiatives, grade monitoring, advocacy and parent-school strengthening activities.
This program includes targeted social-emotional learning components, which build positive, pro-social, supportive peer groups, emphasize the value of education and focus on achieving bright futures. Students receive healthy snacks and dinners during the school year, and lunch and dinner during summer months with no school meal options.
CAN’s programs are on-going, community-based, and easily accessible. CAN’s results, 96% graduation and 95% attendance rates, are evidence of CAN's effectiveness.
